Default choosing the right game and right limit

If I am taking a shot with only 2-4 buy in for a higher game, and I go all AIP with aces and lose to an under pair, is it a bad investment because I'm taking such a huge risk? I know that I would play a lot better in a higher game because I'm more aware of my surroundings, but I can't get a feeling of the variance is just going to crush me. Do I really have to stay at the lower level forever?

I think a lot of players suffer from lack of focus at levels they don't respect. If you think you will play better at a higher level then you should keep replenishing a bankroll for that game instead of playing too low

I guess the usual 20 BI bankroll for the NL game is a little too conservative for me. What is the absolute minimum of BI to move up, if you feel that you're ready to play in that higher game?
