Sounds like the table where sternroolz was playing had a fine vibe going.

Angus - If only MOST of the players are miserable then that can be considered a really nice vibe for an Omaha table.

Good point. I was going by his "make nice with most" comment. But that does not mean anywhere near as much for describing the table mood as "everyone else is miserable."

Still, I would hate to see a player at the table get his ears up and ask "what's a donkey?"

Regardless of whether or not they become interested in what a donkey actually is, the point is that there is about a 95% chance that they will remain a donkey if they already are in that category. People don't suddenly improve when hearing strategy discussed after calling turns with K664 on a board of A-K-8-8 because they feel they "might" win half the pot.

I don't think anyone is arguing that a Donkey is going to turn into an expert instantaneously. It's very likely however, that a Donkey-fish with little or no concept that poker has a skill component, or that there are players who actually study the game mathematically, might have his eyes opened in a scenario like the OP describes. Or perhaps it might just make him aware that one or more of those "skill-based" serious players is sitting at his table.

That could lead to them leaving the table or tightening up or otherwise being more careful/taking the game more seriously.

Being a poker donkey doesn't make someone an all-around fool or idiot.

This is off the subject but I was just curious. What casino was this at? Is $6/12 the lowest stakes available or are there lower and higher stakes for O8?

How about making a copy of this thread and carrying it with you. Then if the situation arises, say to him/her/them, "Excuse me sir (or madam), you seem like a very knowledgable poker player. Could you tell me if there is any merit to this?" and hand it to them.
