We will die, but we'll have kids who live on, and they'll (hopefully) have kids and so on. Each generation is potentially an improvement over the last, so you can think of them as a newer and improved you. Only the you in its current form dies. The you in its new and improved form lives on, and the improvements may continue forever. That's a good reason to work hard IMO.

[/ QUOTE ] 1) "..no different than a dog"???..in what capacity? 2) I would get no self esteem from knowing that I am a slave to another being who demands that I worship him..I do, however get satisfaction from knowing that I am serving people that do exist and are not so cruel that they would demand worship over serving other humans in order to stroke their fragile ego OP I think the answer is simple...you work hard (and study) to help you gain things in life that make you happy...death is inevitable, but we still enjoy being happy in the present or near future. also as long as we're asking "better" questions that attack atheism or theism... Does it make sense to work hard (and study) if you will be granted infinite happiness for all eternity when you die?

I hope not, personally, if such a state of existence is valid.
Although I confess, I'm curious. How do you perceive heaven to be then? I find the organization and structure of angels and similar to be fascinating, especially the hierarchy of angels.
