This is one of the things that I do not understand about many of the socialists here. Many (maybe even most) claim that they want a society that resembles city-states: decentralized communities with a lot of collective ownership within them. What doesn't make sense to me is why there is so much support from these people for big (federal) programs rather than opposition to them, and support for similar programs on local levels instead.
