fried red pepper strips

You cut sweet red peppers into strips and dry them out. They keep that way and you can store them in a dry spot for months. Then fry them up and salt them (as you would potato chips).

This is definitely Italian in origin, but I don't know other people that do this.

They offer sweet, salty, and bitter (the frying adds an acrid taste) all at once in a crispy, deep red form.

This sounds pretty righteous.

I used to go into ethnic markets searching out snack stuff I never tried. Your post reminded me I should start doing that again.

Basturma.

It's dried cured lamb, pretty much the lamb version of prosciutto. I think it's Armenian, and possibly actually called Pastirma although that may be something slightly different. For those of you that like cured meats, you have to try this. It's really flavorful and delicious.

Someone told me grill cheese and peanut butter is where it's at. Must cook it slow, but will enjoy one during football today I think.

I can't say that I've eaten it, but I once saw a food programme where they opened a can of this stuff and the journalist had to turn away to stop from vomiting.

The swedes are weird. We pickle our herring here in Denmark.

I'm a big fan of lychees. They are a small fleshy fruit with a thin, tough shell. It's hard to really describe the taste, but it's somewhat like coconut milk.

we make a lychees martini at our bar. I think they are gross but some ppl like them.
