Re: Help me quit
[ QUOTE ]
I'm so sick of poker and I want to quit and move my life forward in other ways, but I just lost 20% of my bankroll (20K or so), and I can't stop being bothered by it. It just nags the hell out of me all day long. But I never want to grind again. Yes, I made money, but poker just eliminates all other life for me, and has limited my successes in other areas (family, creative pursuits, career, school). [/ QUOTE ] Copy the above and print it out and tape it to your computer screen. You seem to have made the decision. You might want to go and spend some of that money so you enjoy it. |

Re: Help me quit
The quality of life is measured by how one feels about it in the long run. If poker as you are playing it now is lowering that quality of life, it's a bad thing. If the money your are winning is compensating for it, then it makes no difference. If it isn't compensating, then you will play less. Playing sometimes may be an improvement to your overall life situation, so it's not that you have to stop playing.

Re: Help me quit
a little something i learned...
Success begets Success. Playing and winning at poker is success in itself; but if the losses are great, it's extremely stressful and psychologically debilitating. Once i realized i can do really well at what I do professionally, I feel like i can confidently go back to the poker tables with no hangups or the dreaded feeling of 'needing to win'. Playing poker without fear helps my style and I take advantage of it. I look at a young vegas grinder and wonder what he coulda done with his life, as i bluff his tight game. That attitude is something you can't buy. |
