are people who swear often less intelligent?
Think there's any correlation here? When I was younger I'd often hear this from people in authority...teachers, parents, etc. I don't think you could really research this or have any sort of provable results...
What then about your opinion of them? Does it make you think less of them? That they can't express themselves more eloquently? Just curious as I swear a lot and I wonder what the [censored] people think. |

Re: are people who swear often less intelligent?
Chris Rock and George Carlin are two of the smartest people in the public eye. They are incredibly intelligent. I think Carlin borders on genius.
And they both swear like sailors. |

Re: are people who swear often less intelligent?
it takes a smart person to find the best places to swear. Some people who swear all the time inadvertently stumble upon great swearing opportunities... but the very best and smartest swearers, they are more prudent in how they go about it.

Smartest guy I know talks like a drunken redneck truck driving trailer dweller.
He's a pharmecutical research scientist. Phd is some branch of Chemical Engineering. He received his Bachelors, Masters, and PHD in a bit over 5 years. Doesn't bother me, but drives others nuts. |

95% of my swearing occurs when discussing the stupidity of others.

And they both swear like sailors. [/ QUOTE ] Do they do it in normal conversation? Or just in their scripted routines? |

Re: are people who swear often less intelligent?
I think swearing when done at appropriate times (for comedic purposes or for affect) is fine.
It gets stupid when every other word is a cuss word. I recnetly saw the movie the 40 year old virgin (the unrated DVD version) and while there were parts that were really funny the constant torrent of cuss words and vulgar language just got in the way after awhile. |
