Asante Samuel gave an interview yesterday, saying that his contract status is looking very very good. signing him to a good long term deal would cap a perfect offseason (so far)

Pats sign Kelley Washington.
The Patriots gave Washington a five-year deal worth up to $22 million, including a $300,000 signing bonus. The deal is similar in structure to the one that Donte' Stallworth signed with the Patriots. It contains a $4 million roster bonus payment that the Patriots will have to decide whether they want to pay a year from now. Washington turned down the chance to play in Miami, opting instead for New England. WR's now include: Donte' Stallworth Wes Welker Reche Caldwell Jabar Gaffney Kelley Washington Chad Jackson Bam Childress Kelvin Kight Jonathan Smith plus possible Troy Brown (doubtful) my guess is that 6 are on the active roster to start the season, with Chad Jackson on the PUP Donte' Stallworth Wes Welker Reche Caldwell Jabar Gaffney Kelley Washington someone else. I think they are throwing a whole bunch on the wall and seeing what sticks. they want all these guys to have a full TC to spend with Brady

The league had tons of salary cap issues to resolve and didn't feel like making another concession to get rid of the poison pill. It does, however, appear that the league told the Pats not to use it and facilitate a trade (as another poster said). The union isn't too happy. Story (via PFT)

speaking of Borges, here is a great old quote I stumbled on
"On a day when they could have had impact players David Terrell or Koren Robinson or the second-best tackle in the draft in Kenyatta Walker, they took Georgia defensive tackle Richard Seymour, who had 1 sacks last season in the pass-happy SEC and is too tall to play tackle at 6-6 and too slow to play defensive end.
