Default B&M Story: “Dealer, just two more chips and I’m even!” with deja vu

Not too long ago in a card barn not so far away “Super Live” is seated two to my right in an otherwise average (which means good in LA) $3-$5 blind NL game. Over the course of a few hours Super Live’s stacks are jumping up and down like a bunch of five-year old kids in a McDonalds play area after lunch of fries and McCookies. Super Live is having a great time playing/raising/betting/luckboxing almost every hand; meanwhile this night I’m struggling and feeling a bit out of sorts.

To my horror Super Live luckboxes a big pot and reaches for a few empty racks conveniently located to the side on a darn drink table (Note to self: If possible, find a way to keep the racks out of reach and/or site of a live one with lots of chips). Over the course of two or three hands Super Live assembles his chips and ends up just short of three full racks of yellow (i.e., just under $1500). The blind is now two seats to his right.

At this critical moment Super Live looks at the dealer, points to the small gap in his top rack and says, “Dealer, just two more chips and I’m even”.

I doubt praying in a place as unholy/sordid as a card barn works but I’m human so I pray anyway: “Please God, don’t let this guy get even.”

Either luck takes over or my prayers are answered and he loses two smallish pots. He’s due to take the big blind so he looks down at his racks, notices he now only has about $1460 so he posts the blind.

Over the next hour I stack him twice. Now I have everyone covered. Meanwhile he runs good against everyone else so everything’s cool and I’m ready for a long session, i.e., I’m deep, Super Live is deep, and I’m on his left.

Another hour goes by. Super Live wins a few big pots and I notice he’s reaching for empty racks again. After assembly he’s once again a little short with the big blind two seats to his right.

Super Live looks at the dealer, points to the small gap in his top rack and says, “Dealer, just two more chips and I’m even”.

I would have thought I was experiencing a serious case of déjà vu except this time the pretty female dealer smiles and suggestively tells him “Sir, maybe you should just go home!” I’m thinking this can’t be happening; a card barn employee is telling a non-obnoxious, smiling customer who happens to be the only real super live one in the game to go home. Maybe I misheard.

A few moments later he’s actually got his racks partly on the rail ready to pick up but he takes another hand anyway. Once again he loses two smallish pots. He’s due to take the big blind so he looks down at his racks, notices he now only has about $1460 so he posts the blind.

Once again I’m thinking this is déjà vu but now something spoils it and this time I’m sure I don’t mishear. The dealer notices him posting the blind, smiles and softly and seductively suggests, “Sir, just go home” while waving her hand as if to blow him away.

I flash the dealer death stares but I’m so out of practice at death stares nothing happens (I spoke with her “sort of privately” later; that’s another related story). I go back to praying and once again they are answered. Super Live lets his blind stay. He loses a couple pots. A round or so later he un-racks his $1200 or so chips and sets in for the long haul, which in his case has an over under of about one hour (to busto or over $1500).

An hour later Super Live busts out. He doesn’t have to worry about racking chips.

I guess is he wanted to get even so much déjà vu didn't matter.

Sounds like you were in a good spot to deliver the first ever KITV.

Situations like this with this kind of player are the ones where I'm willing to make small mistakes in the hope of beating them in a pot so they don't leave.

Given a previous "Urban Cougar" fiasco post I Googled, searched this forum, checked the Urban Dictionary but for the life of me I have no idea what KITV means.

Oh sh_t, I just figured it out

I was thinking about this between hands during the game. You would definitely take a little of the worst of it to prevent this guy from going over the magic number. Going into some detail regarding how/when is probably worth a thread/post on a strategy forum (if it hasn't already been done).

Anyway, in the old days I had time to post on strategy and people actually cared about what I wrote (I think). These days I'm just a clueless old man everyone knows enough to ignore.

Was the dealer friends with the guy or something? It sounds like he was making the game really juicy, I wouldn't want someone like that to leave. I'm curious to hear how the convo with the dealer went.

Thanks. I can't remember most of the stacking hands since they were routine and I'm borderline senile. The one I remember and noted was this one.

I'll try to find time tomorrow to describe my interaction(s) with the dealer.

When I ran into her tonight the first thing she mentioned was "but we are friends" (in regards to "Super Live" in seat five).

More tomorrow (I hope).

Yknow, that would be a tough part of that job.

I mean, if you're a dealer and one of your buds is a major gambling addict and you go to a table for a down and there he is. You know he has a family and he's sitting on a limit you know he can't afford.

Not saying this was the case with the dealer in question, but it got me thinking a little about it and extrapolating it a bit.

Any dealers really run into something like that? Sorry for the hijack. It's late and I wanted to get that thought down.

I hope their friendship is worth a significant reduction in tips.
