Someone please tell me about Radar Detectors

I have a problem. I can't stop getting speeding tickets. I am not some teenage or 20 something with a souped up car that who weaves in and out of traffic. I am pushing 40 and have 2 small kids. Without exaggeration, I believe I have had about 20 tickets (17 minumum and maybe 22 max over my 22 yr driving career). Of all of those tickets, I can only recall 2 of them being on a highway. One of them was in the middle of the night around 2am and I was doing 125 km/hr on a major highway where the speed limit dropped to 90 km. The other one was first term of university back in 1988 going back home to Montreal for the first time (homesick). Anyways, the rest of them are all on normal 2 lane streets where the limit is usually about 60km/hr. This is where I have a problem.....I really have a hard time driving 60 in a 60.....I'm usually coasting along at around 80-85 and when its late 1t night and it's completely empty, maybe I might be doing 90-95km/hr. These are the types of places where there are often speed traps....usually when the limit drops. I tend not to pay attention to the limit signs and i just cruise at what I feel is cocmfortable which is always too fast.

Anyways, to make a long story short, I got another ticket in a speed trap last week where the limit dropped from 70km to 50km....I was doing 81 km/hr. I think it's time for me to get a radar detecor. Does anyone here have one? Does it work well? What type of range does it have? DOes it work on all types of police radars including laser? Any other info I should know?

Radar detectors are pretty worthless now, because cops use laser guns now, and it cant detect those, afaik.

Thats a lot of tickets, is your insurance jacked up or is it not a big deal over that much time?

Didnt read your post but I have a valentine one that works great, once you get used to telling whats a false alarm and whats not.

radar detectors work but only sometimes. if the cops are using lasers it will go off but unless they hit the person in front of you first it will basically go off only to let you know you just got nailed.

laser= when cops are stopped and pointing a lasr gun at you

radar=still much more common than laser

I have a V1 and like it. Others like Passport. Personal preference.

Costco sells them and I believe its for laser radars..

basically, i'm not a crazy speeder. I just have trouble driving at speed limit when Im off highways. I might go 15-20 mph over.

Ya it's strange...they seem to come in bunches. I don't get them for 3-4 yrs , then I'll get 3 in a year. Unbelievably my insurance is not bad bc a few times I hired a paralegal and cop didn't show up in court so they were thrown out. Another time, there was an error on the ticket and that one got thrown out. When I realise that I haven't had a tocket in 2+ yrs, then I'll just pay them bc they onoly stay on your record for 3 yrs.
