An excerpt from the IGN preview article:

"Even better, the game will be fully online playable in addition to featuring a robust multiplayer mode. "My plan is to include Wi-Fi connection compatibility and online functionality. One of the primary reasons Super Smash Bros. Brawl was created was that Nintendo, when taking Wii online, wanted to have Smash Bros. to do that," added Sakurai."

I think that implies that there will be multiplayer online.

Where can I find the latest updates regarding the development of this game? There doesn't seem to be many sites updated regularly.

Best Buy shows a release date of 3/15/2007. Has this been confirmed?

I'm probably the only person to never play a smash brothers game, but I've been looking at this and it looks like a lot of fun.
