I love Long Beach airport. After using it you'll never want to use LAX again. And it's about equal distance to Commerce (maybe a few miles different either way).

Nothing really around Commerce but Disneyland and Knotts are just a few miles (15?) south down the 5 freeway.

Long beach airport is 5 minutes closer according to google. There are some past threads about the area around commerce being mostly industrial.

Long Beach is, by far, the easier choice.

Nothing really to do in Commerce for your GF and 2 y/o, unfortunately. That said, the Crowne Plaza is attached to the hotel and the hotel/casino complex is right off the 5 freeway (a major N/S freeway). If she has a car, she should be able to get around to other tourist spots.

Here's a list of action at LA area rooms. I updated the Commerce info about two weeks ago (on a Thu night). Should be indicative...

LA Cardroom comparison chart

Hope this helps.

Long Beach is barely closer. Its nicer and easier to navigate.

No. Rent a car. Visit the beach, Disneyland, Knotts, Universal studios, the LA Zoo, Long Beach Aquarium, et al. Tons of really toursity places as long as you have a car. None are more than a 30 minute drive in non traffic hours.

There is literally tons of stuff to do in Los Angeles and if you have any specific questions you should query here. FWIW, I've found Enterprise to be the least expensive car rental place.

Also, if you have time between poker you can take your gf and kid to Oak Glen which is about 1.5 hours east of LA. It's Apple season there and they have pick-em yourself orchards which cater to young kids. It's a fun day trip.

just made me laugh for some reason. LA is a big city, you can do all sorts of weird stuff, like ride a donkey down the Malibu cliffs. I have lived here for 11 years, and never heard of the Oak Glen.
Umm....there are beaches are nice weather here.

11 years is but a whisker in time.

How about Vasquez rocks up the 14 freeway? Great hiking and rock formations. When you see the big rock there you will know it from all the commercials and TV shows. Or a drive up to Mt. Wilson with a spectacular view of all of LA and San Gabrial valley? Or a ride over Mulhulland Dr at night with the lights of the valley on one side and the canyons of Bel Air on the other?

The commerce 40/80 is a great and wonderful game. Argubley the best 40/80 game on the West Coast. The 60/120 game would be a great and wonderful game if it werent for the 12$/half hour time charge. This is twice the rake of the 40/80 game (which is 5$ if flop, 1$ if no flop) and makes for a harder to beat game. I recommend playing 60/120 elsewhere (maybe Hawaiian Gardens if they get it going).
