Default 200NL - Is this river VB too thin?

Only played with villain about a dozen or two dozen hands. He seems loose/passive, and is definitely limping too much preflop.

Full Tilt Poker, $1/$2 NL Hold'em Cash Game, 6 Players
LegoPoker Hand History Converter

MP: $198.90
Hero (CO): $190
BTN: $213.55
SB: $139.35
BB: $280.70
UTG: $162.30

Pre-Flop: A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] dealt to Hero (CO)
UTG folds, MP calls $2, Hero raises to $9, 3 folds, MP calls $7

Flop: ($21) J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 Players)
MP checks, Hero bets $16, MP calls $16

Turn: ($53) 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 Players)
MP checks, Hero checks

River: ($53) 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 Players)
MP checks, Hero bets $15

I felt this bet was mandatory at the time. Was it?

Why is a loose-passive checking a spade to me twice? Don't they normally just bet their hand?

Does your experience show that donks are as likely to call a bet this large with Qx/Jx as they will a smaller VB (like what I did)?

people call everything in my experiences. they love calling. pretty much, they call 26 if they were going to call 15 here.

he's not betting his little spade cause HE IS loose-passive.
I really dont see a lot of value in betting here.. it sucks, but he's only calling hands that beatyou except maybe some Queens, and u can be sure he isnt folding even a baby flush after the turn check

Is your river VB too thin? Yes. He has shown no strength during the hand and its going to be tough for TP with no spades to call. If you are getting called, the majority of the time its a hand that beats you.

Your bet size makes the problem even worse, as now its hard for even a low spade not to call, given the odds he is getting.

IMO, there is no value in a river bet without any history between you and villain. He is almost never calling worse. You are almost never folding out better either because you bet such a small amount.
