Book on resources and the world political economy

I know it's a huge topic, but I'm just looking for a few suggestions. I want to know more about how prices of oil and other resources affect other aspects of the global economy. Or REALLY good tangentially related books. Thanks.

If you like reading about history, I would recommend "The Prize" by Daniel Yergin.

I suggest you read "beyond capatalism" - not sure who the author is right now..... it might be a bit on the socialist side of things, but very eye opening.
(Specially the part about how multi national corporations go about obtaining control of "everything")
