Sorry, I briefly skimmed the thread, opinions of Cartier watches?

[/ QUOTE ]

cartier is not primarily a watch manufacturer, they make jewelry. their watch movements are not made in house which makes them somewhat of a fraud in the eyes of watch enthusiasts. as someone mentioned, however, women will probably be impressed as they will recognize the brand. for whatever thats worth lol.

How did you talk about the best watchmakers in the world and not mention Vacheron Constantin?

[/ QUOTE ]

vacherons are too expensive for mere mortals, although they are undoubtedly the nicest watches being manufactured today.

Ok...if we are going to devote 13 pages to watches, lets talk about some real MF watches! Forgive me if this has already been mentioned.

But I have a Blancpain Leman, here is the variante of my watch thoughts?

Blancpain is hit or miss on looks for me, and you can't have a watch thread w/o Patek.

Here's a nice perpetual in white gold:

Sorry peeps. Been really busy the last 24 hours. I'll do my best to respond.

GoldenIP,

This may be straying from your area of expertise, but I'm birthday shopping, and I'm looking for a ladies watch in the $800-$1K range. No clue where to start. Any suggestions as far as brands or anything?

30 years old, I want something silver/steel with a neutral face that could she could wear in both an office or casual setting. I'm guessing that price range will rule out diamonds and whatnot.

[/ QUOTE ]

UMTerp - Without even looking, I would go straight to Tag Heuer for that price and probable design you're looking for. For under 1k, there aren't many better makes than Tag.

[ QUOTE ]
What do you think of Jeager-LeCoultre

[/ QUOTE ]

lsaw2 - J-LeC are typically a bit too delicate for me. I like a real mans watch. Not saying they aren't, they are certainly a good affordable watch, just not my personal style.

Horacewinsagain - I think someone has already said it (Smellmuth?) but (a) they're hard to find a retailer and (b) they're often very expensive.

bigt2k4 - 5 words "DO NOT BUY CARTIER WATCHES". That simple.

knght311 - I like the watch in your first link and again, another really good watchmaker. They just don't quite suit my style. I should have been broader from the outset with what I recommend because I know my style of watch won't suit all. Thanks for posting alternatives. The same goes for Patek Phillippe and me.

absoludicrous - love the Planet Ocean Big. Just my kinda watch. Indifferent about the co-axial.

Patek P are generally very expensive peeps. And, I would say more of an older gentleman's watch. It's the sort of watch I'll wear when I turn 50 or something. Having said that, they are one of the finest watchmakers. There's no denying that.

If I've missed any questions, let me know.

$75 Fossil, highly recommended. I'm pretty sure you could drop 300 million in lottery winnings on me right now and I still wouldn't spend 4+ figures on a watch

IT'S A [censored] WATCH
