720 is certainly not bad & is well above the national average.

[/ QUOTE ]
But, it's below the national median of 723.

I believe that the average (arithmetic mean) score is 678. But, ~50% of people have a score greater than 723 and ~50% have a score less than 723.

I've seen scores from places like freecreditreport be off by as much as 30 points numerous times. I wouldnt consider them accurate at all as far as the scores go. What they are good for is checking whats on your credit report, inquiries, etc.

BTW 720+ is good credit...

Obviously 720 didn't get OP a preferred rate. Did it?

720 is certainly not bad & is well above the national average.

You're right and the only consideration for a loan is the credit score...

From what I remember from real estate, 720 is where you start to get the "billboard rates." The nice APRs you see on the highway.

720+ = good.

Why do all of you insist that 720 is such a great credit score??? I work as a credit analyst & I will be the first to admit, it's a very decent score. But, in a lot of cases, not good enough to get the top notch interest rates.

Brad1970: I think there's a difference between good and great. 720+ is really where you start getting into "A" tier rates as far as residential lending is concerned. Is it great or excellent credit...no. Another thing, OP should get copies of his reports directly from the bureaus and find out what's going on. I initially responded to this thread only because I see drastic differences between what the free credit reports say and what you get when you pull a tri merge.

Actually I can't remember. It's been 4 years... Maybe it was 780 was the cutoff for the nuts rates.
