Honsetly, I stay up until I'm tired. If that means I'm tired the next day, I go to bed earlier when I'm tired, and sometimes I'm not tired the following day, whereupon I am tired the day after the next day, since I slept too much.

Rinse and Repeat.

If you don't fall asleep right away when you get to your bed, you haven't work hard enough during the day.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is true.

For 10,000 years it was relatively hard to stay alive as a human and a normal day required significant physical exertion.

Now it is relatively simple to survive an entire lifetime without exerting any significant physical or mental effort at all.

If you want to sleep well, work harder. But most people would prefer insomnia.

I used to have terrible problems falling asleep too. I spent the entire first year of my college career lying in bed awake it seemed.

At a point, I gave up on trying to sleep more than 2-3 hours a night and just started playing Counter Strike until I basically passed out. I got really good at CS but was a zombie all day.

I started putting on Disney movies that I watched a lot as a kid(Robin Hood, Cinderella, etc) when I was trying to go to bed and all of a sudden...I was cured. Stupidest thing ever, but it worked great for me. I don't have to do it anymore but man it saved my undergrad career.

I just solve it by the fact that I fall asleep withing 10 seconds.
I can sleep anywhere, anytime.

I have slept in the middle of a large public park with loads of people running around.
I sleep EVERY time I fly. Most times I will sleep 9 hours on an 11 hour flight.

I am VERY lucky in that way.

i often have a very difficult time falling asleep. i occasionally experience what is apparently known as exploding head syndrome (its not as bad as it may sound). has anyone else experienced this?

[/ QUOTE ]

I used to get this frequently. I found that having some kind of constant low level background noise on whilst trying to get to sleep helped a lot.

If anyone's got any tips for sleeping whilst flying I'd be grateful. Never can manage this.
