OT: I Suck at Live Poker
For new years I went to Niagara Falls Canada because I’m 20 and cannot play live poker in America aka go to Vegas. Played roughly 300 hands of $1/$2 100 max NL and 125 hands of $2/$5 200 max NL. I normally multi table the 27s on stars for a good ROI so im familiar with STT winning concepts. These concepts obv do not apply to live NL cash games. I felt like I was playing too tight, and got zero favorable situations. I didn’t get deat AA or KK once and was only deat AKo one time in SB and played it very strong pre-flop. I lost like $300 canadian. What confuses me though is that my friend who never reads two plus two forums, and is not a very good STT player at all who I can say I know much more about poker than him, won $800 canadian at the tables and was light weight ballin during the trip. (multiple times he stacked people by flipping over AA preflop and his opponent flipping KK,QQ,JJ.) What do you guys think was the case here. Is my experience playing STT's not enough to beat a weak NL cash game full of tourists in Niagara, or was this just a case of short term variance? |

just a case of short term variance [/ QUOTE ] Also...that blind structure's not too friendly when you hit that variance wall and don't see hands. Those tables are set for fast, heavy-action play with a lot of people buying back in. The lowest limit NL tables at most casinos are. Let me guess....the standard open-raise at the $1/$2 was something along the lines of $15? And normally multiple callers? |

[/ QUOTE ] Ya between 10 and 15 but its not like people were super out of line, I was actually suprised at the people at the $1/$2 gm but there was this guy str8 from Africa at the $2/$5 gm who didnt know what a blind was.... way more fish in the $2/$5 gm. I felt like if I could only get a monster hand I could have killed it but would a great NL cash player not need a monster hand? would they be able to own the table w/ the hands I was getting. 95% trash fold hands and suited connectors A9,A10,AJ, Kj, KQ etc. I felt like i wasnt deep enough to be seeing raised flops w/ suited connectors. and my SnG blood says fold trouble hands like KJ A9 etc with a full ring of loose players, im not gonna lie man I was lost. I need to stick to 9 tbling the 27s fo sho |

Re: OT: I Suck at Live Poker
If I'm not mistaken, you probably played as you should have. Short stack NL cash games require a more solid hand/Tag approach.

Re: OT: I Suck at Live Poker
Cash games and SNG's are two totally different animals. They require different skill sets. One could be a very good SNG player, but a very terrible cash game player and vice versa.

Re: OT: I Suck at Live Poker
How brutal did you find the dealers there? Probably took you 10 hours to get 300 hands.

Also you lost like the equivalent of 2 buy-ins. That's nothing, especially over 425 hands. |

Re: OT: I Suck at Live Poker
Just play tight. A9 is definitely not a hand you need to be getting involved in in these games.
If you didn't get AA/KK, guess what? Live poker's real slow sometimes bro. Get used to it. That's why it's so loose. People simply don't have the patience to fold. Ryan |
