Default NL CASH line check

Did I screw this one up?

Reads: match just started, he came to the table with almost the max buy-in and cents, so I assume he's busto.

Felt like a weird desperation bluff or weaker TP pushing, because he's busto and wants to double up or go all out. I might be off here tho'.

Looks standard to me unless you have a read that says otherwise.

Totally standard, especially with the fact that he is probably busto. Even without reads, I play it the same.

Just throwing it out there.

This is never a worse hand vbetting. He has you beat or he's bluffing. It's that simple.

If his vbets to bluffs are in the right frequency then you don't gain a thing by calling .

The real question becomes : Does my opponent bluff more than the optimal amount or less ?

If he bluffs more , then you should call .
If he bluffs less , then you should fold .

I thought about this a lot, I honestly lean toward a check. But it's close. You have to call the river because tilty players will have a tremendous propensity to try to represent a 2 here. And 97/98 will call you down, T9 as well.

One argument for checking is that a tilty player would RR his 9s a lot to "take the pot down." In fact, if that thought flashed into m y mind, I would probably check behind. But, you can't be faulted for betting here given the action.

PS: One more idea - I much rather lead here if an 8 or a 7 comes on this board. He would have RRed to pair for sure, meaning that I increase my chance of getting a value call from K8/A8/K7/A8/108/Q8/blah blah. That paired 2 makes me more cautious.

Really?

I think that 109, J9, and Q9 RR on the flop. Maybe Q9 is RRing for value, but I don't see it. Sorry. 88 RRing here is absurd.
