Pretty boring hand, but I haven't played this game in a while and I'm wondering if this was the best way to play the hand, particularly on 4th and the river.

On fourth, I think that trying to keep the other guy in is probably best. I'd bet the river. Yes, you're probably just chopping, but maybe, just maybe, he's on a weaker high hand, and it's very unlikely that you'll get swept.

If you bet the river, and the villain raises, do you call? The majority of times he would have caught the case 5 ( a backdoor flush is possible as well), a rather rare situation but still within the realm of the possible.

With three 5s on 4th I would re-raise just because we want to give ourselves the best chance to scoop the entire pot. And we have the best hand...

If our opponent sucks I would bet the river. If he plays OK I would probably just check-call. Really very dependent on a number of different factors.

I think you can value bet the river without too much worry of getting scooped. It's pretty unlikely he's got a straight or a flush and he'll call if he's got two pair. Of course we pay off a raise if it comes.

If calling on 4th would keep the 8 in, then call; if the 8 is going to fold probably, then go ahead and raise. If your opponent folds a low draw on 5th as a result, oh well, and you are a dog only to an opponent with the case five and a 4 in the hole. (Or rolled sixes I guess.)

It would be silly to fold on the river. An opponent being frisky with a 6-4 is plenty likely enough to call.

If your opponent catches the case 5, good for him; he still needs a 7 or 2 in the hole as well. It's much more likely that he will hit two pair and pay you off. If he would actually fold two pair, you need to bet your open pairs more often.

If I bet the river in stud/8, it's essentially never with the intention of folding to a raise.

Depending on how sticky seat 5 was I may re-raise 4th - just calling if I thought he'd likely fold.
You have to bet that river - too much value is lost checking there.
