Re: A-Rod opts out of contract
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] i truly believe that Arod will want to play somewhere where he can hit alot of homeruns, thus avoiding LA and SF... [/ QUOTE ] Dodger Stadium has usually been an above average home run park. And he didn't mind playing in Yankee Stadium, which was hell on right handed home run hitters until .... [ QUOTE ] Rodriguez established the franchise record for most home runs in a single season by a right-handed batter (broke Joe DiMaggio's mark of 46 in 1937). His 47 HR from the third base position are a single-season American League record. Alex hit 26 home runs at Yankee Stadium in 2005, establishing the single-season club record for right-handed batters. [/ QUOTE ] The previous club record was 19 and held by DiMaggio in 1937 and Gary Sheffield in 2004. A-Rod hit 17, 26, 20, and 26 Yankee stadium home runs in his four years as a Yankee, beating the old mark almost every single year. [/ QUOTE ] Comparing Yankee Stadium today to Yankee Stadium from the old days is a joke. The fences have come in dramatically everywhere but down the lines. The left field power alley is more than 50 feet shorter than when DiMaggio played, 100 feet shorter than when Gehrig played. |

Re: A-Rod opts out of contract
Not to mention the fact that A-Rod is facing better pitching!

My prediction is that he lands with the Cubs. Just want to go on record somewhere saying this.

Re: A-Rod opts out of contract
But he's suggesting you replace Reyes with A-Rod. Then you have A-Rod for Reyes with Santana pitching. A-Rod's better than Reyes and Santana is better than Tom Glavine, no?

Re: A-Rod opts out of contract
Supposedly, Torre is discussing, among other things, personnel moves with the Dodgers. The Dodgers already have the best catcher in the league, so I can't imagine they'd want to replace him with A 37-year old veteran. And they also have a closer who was more effective than Rivera last year and is younger. The newspapers here are rife with A-Rod talk but I think the scuttlebutt about how close Torre and A-Rod are is not accurate.
I suppose one could imagine a scenario whereby the Dodgers trade Martin and Loney for Miguel Cabrera, and then sign Posada, and then get A-Rod to play first base, but that's a helluva parlay. |

Re: A-Rod opts out of contract
(Disclaimers: I don't ever listen to Mike & Mike, and I don't really know anything about baseball's business side/player unions/etc)
On Mike and Mike this morning, they were discussing A-Rod, and Mike Golic mentioned that when ARod signed the gigantor contract with the yankees, he had a (slightly) less gigantor offer from the Red Sox which he was considering, but the players' union *forced* him to take the bigger offer. Is this true? Is there more to the story? |

The contract he signed with the RANGERS was, allegedly, for $50 million more than any other team had offered. |

Re: A-Rod opts out of contract
After the 2003 season, the Red Sox and Rangers had a deal in place which would have sent ARod to the Sox (and Manny to the Rangers). Part of the deal was that ARod would take a cut in salary.
The players' union blocked the trade based on the cut in salary. |
