How Nitty? Parking situation w/diagram
Some new people moved into the fourplex across the street from my house. Their garage is immediately across from my driveway. They've been parking one car in their garage, and putting their other car directly in front of their garage (which obviously isn't a legal parking space). It makes it incredibly difficult to back out of my driveway, especially for my wife in her SUV. In fact, the previous neighbor used to park there until my wife smashed into his car (which of course I paid for, because being parked illegally doesn't absolve us from the damage to his car). There is always legal street parking within 50 yards of the building. Here's a diagram:
How nitty is it to ask that they stop parking in front of their own garage? I really don't want to be a dick about it, but I also don't want to pay another $500 when my wife inevitably hits their car. There's a reason they put these things directly across from one another. I'm correct to talk to them/leave a note about this, right? |

This is marginal. If your street is very narrow and it's really difficult to back out then I think casually mentioning it to them is ok. It seems like they ought to be able to park in their garage. It's a little nitty, but I would probably do the same thing. People interfering with my ability to move my car irritates me to no end so I think you're fine with this.

Talk to man of the house, make many bad women driver jokes, both laugh, man will move car, all will be well.

What's your relationship with them like so far? How much, if any, do you care about future neighbor goodwill?

Re: How Nitty? Parking situation w/diagram
Is this a side street or a main road? Why can't your wife just back into the driveway? Although you say its not a legal spot, if the police don't seem to mind, why should they have to move because you're wife is a bad driver?
I guess there is no harm in asking them, but if you can manage and its just her hitting them because she sucks at driving, then I wouldn't blame them for thinking "Wtf theres plenty of room?" Also, I'm shocked that she is bad female driver who has a huge SUV that she can't manage. PS- Be careful. If your neighbor is a ninja, there's no telling how he might react. |

Although I was grilling yesterday while they were parking and glared at them a little, which I regret. I would've talked to them then, but I was 3-4 scotches into my day and thought it would be wise to do this while sober. |
