Mason has revised his thoughts. Specifically, the cap on buy-ins makes the game more viable.

whether the cap is good or bad for the bad players does not make much difference.

Rooms trying to capture market space need to market to the masses not the few.

If a non-cap 1/2 and 2/5 will bring in more players than this is another marketing tool for them.

Smiths grocery store has food
Walmart has food AND other offerings. The masses head to Walmart.

The point is that if you are talking about having a $2/$5 NL game with a cap and an uncapped $2/$5 game in the same room this is not a good idea as these games will canilbilize each other.

Walmart doesn't have to worry that there grocery section will cannibilize its housewares section.

It's more fundamental than that. Walmart does not have to worry that their customers will be poisoned so badly by their food that they never come back. That's the worry with an uncapped game.

Absolutely it matters if the cap is good or bad for poorer players.

Venetian is a convention hotel, it makes a huge diference. Removing the cap on games 5/5 and below would be a bad idea, it would poison its base of tourists who are looking to play that No Limit game they saw on TV. They are more likely to try the game at Venetian than they are at any other casino in Vegas - provided there is energy in the poker room that draws them in. These guys want action, to give them action you also need a safety net of the capped games.

I think caps are essentially irrelevant, with only a very few exceptions.

You are right. Even at the "V".
It may well be a convention hotel BUT very few convention people stop by and play.

The "V" is is a great spot to open up the flood gates to their room.

A little more advertising, customer service, and hands on approach would get this room ROCKING.

If people are worried about the tourist going broke in non capped games, than all limit games should be capped at 4/8 to preserve the $$
