\"splash the pot\" strategy - xpost from b&m
Argosy in Indiana runs this promotion called "splash the pot" where they randomly draw a table and add $250 to the next pot.
I was at a 2/5 nl table and we got picked. The table was fairly deep, I had around $850 and was covered by a few players. I had the pleasure of being UTG. While I was contemplating if open pushing any 2 was the correct strategy, I was dealt AK which made the decision easy. If I had 72o it still seems like it would be correct to push right? How deep would I have to be to make this incorrect? Even if someone thinks I am pushing pretty light they would still need a decent hand to call $850 preflop, and I'm fairly sure most people will just give up anyway once I push not wanting to lose their whole stack. Thoughts? |

well yea ak is an easy push, but I'm more interested in thoughts about pushing any2, or at least how wide your range should be.

I'm not sure about whether or not pushing is a good idea, but you should definitely at least limp in with any hand if there's even the slightest chance that no one will raise you and you will get to see a flop for just the minimum bet. (I would also accept a normal preflop raise if you have aggressive players who like to raise limpers.

TOP mentions this in one of thye early chapters dealing with antes, i think pushing was a good choice but putting in 500 would have been better but i think it depends on other stack sizes

I think any two may do, depending on your table image and the other players. I mean if your image is of one that would pull this, then no. But if you are seen as pretty straightforward, this is the best opportunity to take advantage of it. Also, you need to know if anyone else at the table would think that you think that they think that you would pull this, and thus then wouldn't pull it except for a quality hand.
With a nitty table, and a tight, unimaginative image, I would push any two. With an average table, with a tight, unimaginative image, all pks, QJ up, suited connectors. With an aggressive table, or a bad (for this play) image, I would only loosen up slightly. You are unfortunately UTG. |

If you have AA UTG, do you still push, since you are happy enough that the pot is already large? If you think that someone is capable of trying to buy the pot by pushing behind you, should you limp, or is the risk of a multiway limped pot too great?
