Cliff Burton - Untimely

I think if Cliff Burton had lived Metallica might have remained the amazing band they were for their 1st 3 albums. After he died, they really went down hill quick.

Note re: "quick", Enter Sandman was released 5 years after Burton died.

It's basically impossible to say what route the band would have taken because 5 years is a long time (longer than Cliff was even in the band). Lars and James are VERY strong personalities and I don't know if Cliff could have challenged them had James and Lars wanted the band to go in one direction.

Oh, I almost forgot, Fade to Black could be considered a ballad.

5 years, but only the 2nd full album since Masters.

Fade to Black is a ballad. You got me there.

OK, Metallica still would've probably gotten softer as time went on, but I think Cliff's presence might have kept them harder than they are today.

I got to admit bias. Once Lars went against Napster, I couldn't stomach Metallica anymore. They had begun as such a blue collar for the people by the people band, that when multi-millionaire Lars starting harping on Napster it really turned me against the band...or him at least. I really figured James would get fed up, and Metallica's break-up was just around the corner, but apparently I was wrong. Wasn't the 1st time, and won't be the last.

Jeff Buckley - Untimely

I still love Grace, and all the posthumous releases show what may have been. Who swims in a river anyway? Goddammit.
