no, but those are the only schools from which they actively recruit.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yea, that's not correct.

[/ QUOTE ]
Agreed. Definitely recruited at NYU and I could probably name a handful of others if I cared to.

Are you saying that those schools listed are the only ones represented in bulge bracket firms?

[/ QUOTE ]

No. The original poster had to clarify his post to people that asked the same question as you. He said that those are not the only schools represented in BB firms, but those were the only schools represented in their [the firm he works for] graduate intake that year.

[ QUOTE ]
Michael,

A chem PhD will probably have some very solid physics, and math skills. So he likely would be farther behind the other two if at all in analytical skills.

[/ QUOTE ]

Ok, I stand corrected.

Getting into IB right out of college is just like lawyers getting into law right out of law school. what school you went to means (almost) everything - just like someone posted above..

for instance, You could go to harvard law, totally tank, and still land big law (easy). Yet, move down to Tier 2, do not finish top ten percent, and good luck with finding a good job for a while..

There are moderate cutbacks now in the finance world, could be worse.. I really think you should not have that difficult of a time...

If you cannot land anything, consider a full time MBA at another big school, then you will be in with ease...

good luck young man...

Any business school with close the reputation that Harvard undergrad has won't admit anyone right out of college. But that's not really the point.

MichaelL - that makes more sense.

This is false. HBS admits a handful right out of undergrad.

Hi all,

Thanks for your input and words of wisdom, they've really helped quite a bit so far.

ibankingoasis.com

the posters are awful people and generally boring, but their forums are actually really good for finding this kind of info.

those guys make Gordon Gecko look good

[/ QUOTE ]

Lol, yeah that's actually pretty sad but true. As I was browsing through that forum to get a list of banks in NY to research as possible employers, I saw that the list included multiple listings of each company, except they were listed separately and only slightly differently which made me confused. For instance,
[ QUOTE ]
Goldman Sachs Group Inc. (NYSE:GS)
Goldman, Sachs & Co.
Goldman Sachs & Co Bank
Goldman Sachs International
Credit Suisse
Credit Suisse (USA), Inc.
Credit Suisse Securities (USA) LLC

[/ QUOTE ]

The listings of the same company, (e.g. Goldman Sachs) were interspersed and not clumped like I arranged them here. I refrained from posting this question on ibankingoasis because frankly, most people who post on there are asses looking to become BSDs (Big-swinging d..., ref. Liar's Poker) by stomping on some poor ignorant fool like me. From what it looks these are just listings of the same companies but different departments. If that's the case, what do things like LLC stand for then? Thanks.

Call or email someone at OCS and they'll walk your through how you should approach fall recruiting. Also, sign up for the list-servs on the OCS site.

You might want to take accounting at MIT in the fall.

Go to the following corporate websites to get an idea of what they do (when necessary click on business unites resembling investment banking) and go to their careers page:

Goldman Sachs
Lehman Bros
Citigroup
Merrill Lynch
Credit Suisse
Deutsche Bank
JP Morgan
Morgan Stanley
UBS

They'll probably all say the same things, but this is a sufficient list to get you started.
