I'm probably out, but the most fun I've had at a home game was at Patri Friedman's where they played dealer's choice pot-limit. We played everything from PLHE to Mississippi stud nine-or-better to five card Omaha. Wacky games rule.

I was hoping to get a lot of this in the game, especially when most people only really play hold 'em. That gets so boring after a while. I am new to all the other games too anyway. Was hoping to foster/develop the spirit of clueless fun with the other games. Do you have any suggestions for games we should play GOG? You should really come.

-----

Pancho,
I think having the cap on the NL game really sucks. If you want to cap it at $300 max buy I would much rather have .50-1.00 blinds. How about .5-1-2? Or how about a cap at $500? When I said no cap I didn't really imagine people bringing thousands and thousands of dollars, I just figured that it would be a good way for people to play higher that wanted to play with like $500 behind while not affecting the people that are more comfortable playing with $100-200 behind. Maybe 500 max buy?

Other people should really chime in with what they're comfortable with, prefer, etc.

I agree people shouldn't be bringing too much cash and it should start small and within everyone's comfort level.

If everyone interested in playing could PM or email me their e-mail, real name, and location I wouldn't mind being responsible for relaying info. Maybe we should do a google group or something? Or just use this thread? My email is jcwood AT ucsd DOT edu.

IMHO it should be just a fun thing. Keep the blinds really low, like maybe a $1 BB, and change games after each orbit. The NLHE should be uncapped just to make it more fun and allow for some insanity, but the blinds can be nice and low.

Nobody here is going to an EDF home game to make money, it should just be splash around and talk.

Agree completely.

I don't think I'd want to / be able to play any higher than .5/1 NL or 3/6 FL or the equivalent. Seriously, I'm barely rolled for those games, and if its -EV or 0EV its hard to justify the fun versus the risk.

Can we keep it for fun first?

Also, I have no car, so I'd need a ride down from SF. I assume there will be others coming from the city, especially if its a Friday I figure folks'll be leaving work and whatnot.

Everyone get JaBlue your contact details and tell him if 6/29 works. I want to lock it down so I can get it on my calendar.

Hanster, since my wife will likely be around you have to convince her to approve that dealer. Also you would have to provide said dealer. Let me know if you want my wife's e-mail and you can make your case.....

Kurt, worst case you can hop Cal Train and someone can give you a lift. It's probably less than 10 mins from my place to Lawrence station if you can't bum a ride.

FWIW:

I am out of bay area until July 6th(ish)
The stakes discussed made me queasy (maybe worth it if that topless girl plays?)
Don't want to be a thorn, but this is the truth.

I'll be w/o internet till I get back home from my vacation, so I will check back in to the thread early July.

Ja,

I'm not much of a homegame guy. I just don't like poker all that much as a leisure activity, to be honest.

However, I would be happy to meet you, perhaps you can join me and john voight on our all day movie marathon?

[/ QUOTE ]

El D, if you don't consider poker leisure, what do you consider it? Competitive? Or a livelihood (I thought you ran some other business instead of being a pro poker player.)

ill be in the bay area from 6/29-7/2 if there is a game ill come. if the stakes are something like 1-1-2 $200 min buy i can bring 2 guys who will drop 1000 for sure ,if they are higher i can only bring myself (and i aint droppin nothin). the best format for a home game is a blind-blind-bring in POT LIMIT format. dealer call it. casino games only. blinds in all games, even stud on 3rd street. then regular stud rules from then on out. ive been hosting games for 15 years and this is the sweet spot.

Hey Limon,

If you're in town, I'll play the game. Better yet, we should go golfing and you can show me how to play. I'll just give you a couple hundred on the first tee to make it easier for you.
