Good for him - he deserves it. His teams in Buffalo didn't have a ton of talent, but always had a stout D and suffered from incredible bad luck. He just needs to hire a qualified special teams coach rather than one of his childhood friends from Texas. He's not very good with handling the media either, so that should be fun for the locals.

Why couldn't he have done that in 1999? Ugh... I hate the man. But still, if McGahee still likes him I can't see how it's not a good hiring for Dallas.

Atleast they didn't take 9er coaches. I don't have a lot of love for Norv, but I think he's a great OC and has helped Alex Smith's development.

As a Redskins fan/Dallas hater I was really hoping Jerry Jones would hire Norv Turner. I'm glad it's not Ron Rivera though.

Wade Phillips seems like a good coach, career regular season record of 48-39 but he's 0-3 in the playoffs.

Anyone else surprised that this thread isn't getting a lot more replies?

I always thought it was weird that the year they lost to Tennessee in the playoffs their special teams were decent the rest of they year. The next couple of years with the new guy they had the worst kick coverage I had ever seen, but at least they didn't give up a game winning return in the last 10 seconds of play.

Its a classic overreaction firing. There was no reason to fire someone for that play, it wasn't a straight special teams play, it was a very well designed trick play. There is no shame in getting beat by a perfect execution. Its not like they allowed a standard return up the middle.

Teams like to fire guys for illogical reasons. When Houston blew the big lead against the Bills, they fired both the offensive and defensive coordinators the next day. Think about that, the offensive coordinator got fired after his team put up 38 points in a playoff game.

That's not true - they sucked that whole year. They did get worse the following couple years; but they sucked between the time Tasker retired and Bobby April was hired (thanks Mike Martz).
