Default lost with TPNK

Full Tilt Poker - No Limit Hold'em Cash Game - $0.50/$1 Blinds - 5 Players - (LegoPoker Hand History Converter)

SB: $85.00
BB: $344.65
UTG: $34.40
Hero (CO): $98.50
BTN: $160.90

Reads: <font color="blue">I havent really played in 3 weeks...feeling pretty lost in some common situations.

total unknowns...I just sat

Sometimes I bet the flop, but I didn't want to build a huge pot 3-way here.

My thoughts on the river is that I thought I could get some thing value from a weaker A and he would only bet with a flush or a K.</font>

Preflop: Hero is dealt A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (5 Players)
UTG folds, <font color="red">Hero raises to $3.50</font>, BTN calls $3.50, SB folds, BB calls $2.50

Flop: ($11) K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 Players)
BB checks, Hero checks, BTN checks

Turn: ($11) 7[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (3 Players)
BB checks, Hero checks, <font color="red">BTN bets $6.00</font>, BB folds, Hero calls $6.00

River: ($23) J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 Players)
<font color="red">Hero bets $14.00</font>, <font color="red">BTN raises to $28.00</font>, Hero folds
Uncalled bet of $10.00 returned to BTN

Why the hell did you bet the river? He is never calling with worse, let him bet. As for folding for 14, am I missing something here or does only a K, AQ or a flush beat you?

bet flop because you are ahead of their calling range. i.e. fds/smaller pairs /weaker aces will call you. you have to bet turn if you check flop for pot control? I assume that's why you did it.

bet turn for value.
