I think he was referring to the secret spring menu, which featured the $50 omakase. It didn't have all the courses that I wanted to try so I went with the regular one.

Yes there was a ninja that shows up during dessert to do coin and card tricks. It was cool but the fact they used quarters and regular cards kind of messed with the ninja vibe.

I heard that they used to set the dessert menus on fire after you order. I guess that got too expensive after a while so they switched to regular dessert menus.

No offence intended, but Im going to be very happy if there really is a secret menu that EVERYTHING is 20$ cheaper.

Excuse me, ninja-waiter, Id like the super ninja menu please.

Ninja: Sir, I need the password

Duke: Wax-on!

Ninja: Sir, thank you.....

And that saves hime like 300$. That would be sweet.

Sushi - LOL @ AZNs! Great trip report.

I'm going with either the guy in the back with the blue striped shirt, or the dude in the dark blue shirt next to purple shirt guy.

quids: Anyone who clicks the Secret Spring Menu link on the front page of their website will know about it (http://www.ninjanewyork.com/spring_menu.html). If the person hasn't seen the website, they'll find out about it when the ninja waiter says "and this scroll is the secret spring menu."

Duke: I knew I had heard about this crap before from someone. Good lord.

All: This is the most ridiculously horrible thing ever. And I am a huge fan of ninjas. I got dragged there by a friend who figured that $100 omikase MUST be good. Ignoring all the ridiculous ninja nonsense, the food was absolutely horrible. The courses I recall:

Soup (same as sj) - This was unremarkable but fine.

Foie gras - This was a thick dense slab of pretty gross stuff caked in overpowering sea salt that was reminiscent of grocery store pate.

Wagyu beef - This was very so-so beef drenched in a thick overpowering sauce. Not horrible, but definitely no better than a TGI Friday's steak.

Treasure Box - WOW, DRY ICE!!!! This was a bunch of crap bound together in a gelatinous sludge alng with a terrible seaweed salad. They are really big fans of the gelatin here. Everything tasted horrible in this dish.

Soft-shell crab salad - OK, how can you screw up fried soft-shell crab? Well, you can make it super-greasy and soggy and gross.

Sushi - Wow. This sushi was about the caliber of a $9 lunch special sushi place.

Sake tasting - 3/4 of the sakes we had were crap. The fourth one, a daiginjo, was decent so we got a bottle of that which made the dinner slightly more bearable.

As I wrote in the other thread, this is in the running for the worst meal I've ever had, regardless of price. It is unquestionably the worst meal in terms of value - by far.

Dinner for 3 was between $500-600.

Anyone who has been to a decent japanese restaurant will be disgusted by the food at this place. Much of it was basically inedible.

sj: Obviously, dude in purple.

This would be cooler if it had celebrity backing, like the old Planet Hollywood. But instead of Arnold, Bruce Willis, and Stallone, this place had Seagal, Van Damme, and Chuck Norris.

I'd gladly pay $50 for omikase if Michael Dudikoff was serving it.

samj,

Let me reemphasize. The food was about $100/per and it was near inedible.

He meant REAL ninjas, none of this fake, waiter-dressed-in-a-costume nonsense.
