Default Dressing well in the summer heat?

My summer wardrobe consistly mostly of t-shirts and cargo shorts. If I was attending a more formal function or going to a dressier place I'd be pretty screwed. What do you guys wear to look good/sophisticated during the summer?

I'm having a hard time finding slim black pants in a light fabric. I also want to get some of those white button down shirts that you can wear casually but also can throw a tie on. What are some good places to look?

One word: Linen.

Pants, shirts, suits, it definitely the best material for summer. I'd say look at any good men's clothing store or department store, as they should have linen clothing available now.

Do linen pants come in black if I don't want to wear all white?

Also, what counts as a good store? Are places like Zara, Express, and Jcrew good quality? Would there be a big difference between shopping at Macy's or Nordstroms?

When I hear linen, I think tan-colored fabric.

for light weight linen pants, quality isn't really going to be a huge deal. anything that ruins your cheap pants is going to ruin your expensive ones too, and you're probably not going to wear them enough to really notice a difference. i got a pair of linen pants at h&m the other day for like $16 and i like them more than a pair i had customed tailored last spring for considerably more.

you can get them in black if you look around, but they can be pretty sheer. i'd probably stick with light colors. just wear them with pastel shirts instead of white.

I was just shopping around at Nordstroms and they've got a boat load of Linen shirts and pants in a variety of colors.

Brooks Brothers has a bunch of linen formal wear as well.
