Ortiz must have tired himself hitting that homer. The Cards were not even hitting hard outs in the 7th and 8th. Miles lines a hit. Duncan crushed a liner right at Nick Johnson. Pujols to the upper deck. That was more hard hit balls than the Cards had the previous 8 innnings.

Ortiz has a WHIP of 1.50 and the Cards have the second best team beatting average in the NL. This would have to be one of the most improbable no hitters ever.

I still cannot believe I watched Bud Smith throw a no-hitter

Who the hell was that one scrub that pitched a no-hitter for the Cards about ~5 years ago? He later pitched as a reliever for Colorado...

Or maybe I'm imagining this.

edit:

found it

The amazing thing about that no-hitter was that Jiminez almost threw another one his next start (or was it the previous start?) and ended up with a one-hitter. But yea, he was a total scrub.

I was at the game today. It was easily the closest I have ever come to seeing a no hitter. It was a weird game though because it moved so fast. Ortiz needed something like 17 pitches to get through the 6th, 7th and 8th. He wasn't particularly overpowering or dominant, the Cards were just swinging at most first pitches.

That Pujols homer was an absolute bomb, I have rarely seen homers go to that spot in RFK.

they weren't in the same direction, but howard and soriano have both hit significantly longer homers there in the past two weeks.
