Re: Reggae (recommendations)
Peter Tosh- any CD. Bob Marley is about love, Peter is about revolution.
Jimmy Cliff- The Harder They Come, sound track from movie of same name. BTW this was a superb movie now out on dvd; to an old hippie it was the first movie about revolution. Yellowman- King Yellowman. If the above were of the first wave, he was the among second. Eddie Grant- Walking on Sunshine et al. A must for early dj sampling. These all go back, I don’t know about current reggae. enjoy. |

i prefer music thats a little less on the bob marley side. [/ QUOTE ] do you mean that nesta is too roots or too pop? he can get a bit middle of the road on the whole reggae spectrum, so i'm not sure what you're looking for. I'll assume that you think he's too roots for your taste and give a few pop type recs: Aswad -very strong R&B feel Chaka Demus and Pliers-known for their house/club style (murder she wrote is their big hit), but their r&b styles is pretty damned smooth. Steel Pulse-lots of big brass sound. a little on the roots side of pop early, but their later stuff is def. more r&b influenced. Beres Hammond-if you like smooth r&b voices, this is the man. think luthor with a reggae beat |

Re: Reggae (recommendations)
John Brown's Body. Probably the best active reggae band where all the members are US-born, for what it's worth. Based in Boston, although almost all of the members are originally from Ithaca, NY. Almost certainly the best band to ever come out of the very overrated Ithaca (I-Town) music scene. I'm not counting Orleans, they were years ago and a completely different scene.
