Default Betfair leaving Cryptologic

Betfair have finally announced that they are leaving Cryptologic from 30th October 2006.

They will be moving to pokerchamps network (which AFAIK is owned by Betfair).

Does anyone know the numbers that betfair currently have who are playing regularly or where one could obtain this information ???

I play on another crypto skin and would not like to see the overall numbers on the network decrease. Currently crypto have 8000 players peak (6pm-midnight GMT).

Was talking with my rakeback affilate and he reckons that they have ~1500 at peak time. Cannot seem to find any official breakdown. This will leave ~6000 at peak times. I think William Hill are the biggest skin and Crypto have been trying to get others involved. I agree two smaller networks do not help here and I will be looking to change as less players means tougher games unless The Betfair skin takes off but under current conditions I suspect they will do well to try and keep their current customer base.

Betfair are also giving their players a $10/month that they have had an active account since 2004 (max $240) but you have to clear it on the new site and you will get at the rate of $10 per month from sometime in December. This is an effort by Betfair to try and stop a leakage back to the crypto as numbers will be small initially. They are going to pump a lot of time/effort and money into BAPT to try and get some asian players on to the new site and they are currently sponsors of the CPT in Ireland (which I will be playing next week €100 + €10 MTT Live).

I play under Interpoker as the sign on bonus and reload bonus do not expire. And the unmentionable is nice. I used to play betfair but was getting no unmentionable so I switched earlier this year. Still have an active account with betfair for my horses(Leak).

I think you got the the part about clearing the bonus messed up. You need to collect 40 Betfair points for each dollar. They will pay out once a week in increments of $10.

According to interpoker.com, all old reload bonuses should have expired by sep 30, and all new reloads expire at the end of the month they are deposited. So either you are in for a bad surprise the next time you check up on the status of your bonus, or Inter has decided not to enforce their deadlines.

If I am wrong I would greatly appreciate being told so, since I have no intention of losing a bonus to test it myself.

Thanks MadzD for pointing this out.

From Betfair site
[ QUOTE ]

1. Standard Betfair Terms and conditions apply
2. Players can earn $20 for each specific month they have been active on Betfair Poker since November 2005. Therefore, if a player played during 5 different months: January, February, May, July and September: they would be eligible for a total bonus of up to $100.
3. Players can earn a maximum bonus of $240.
4. Players activity activity from 6.00am 30 October 2006 through to 23.59GMT 30th November 2006 will count towards this promotion.
5. The bonus will be paid out on each Wednesday until 6th December 2006, in increments of $10. A player who has earned $17 during the previous week will therefore be paid $10, with $7 carrying over for the next week’s play.

[/ QUOTE ]

The rate is 40 "Betfair Points" earns $1. I did not read how to earn the points.

Interpoker Intial bonus does expiry after 3 months and Reload is monthly.

I posted this in the Zoo yesterday:

"In this press release from October 2005, Cryptologic says that "Betfair fees have typically accounted for 5-10% of the company's revenue".

http://www.cryptologic.com/investor/...ct24_2005.html

If we say 7.5% of the revenue (middle point of guidance), and estimate that the growth in Betfair poker players is in line with the growth of Interpoker revenues (this is a conservatine assumption when the first half numbers showed a 56% revenue growth, compared with 32% casino revenue growth), then we can estimate that the Betfair situation will shave off 7.5% of the company's revenues BEFORE THE AMERICANS HAVE BEEN KICKED OUT.

Add in the fact that Ritz Club is leaving the network, which has an effect on 2% of the Cryptologic revenues, then the company will be hit with a total of around 10% less revenue before the US players have been kicked out.

http://www.cryptologic.com/investor/2006/may5_2006.html

"This decision will have no material impact on CryptoLogic's financial results as the Ritz accounts for less than two per cent of CryptoLogic's revenue."

So what effect does this have on the Cryptologic poker player base?

Well, I think it will have a large effect. Betfair has not had any casino business with Cryptologic (just poker business). Lets take a look at the numbers in 2005, when Crypto claimed that they would be hit with 5-10% less revenues due to the Betfair independence stance:

Casino revenue 2005: $53 million
Poker revenue 2005: $27 million

Total Cryptologic Group revenue: 86,3 million

Loss after Betfair exit: 7.5% of total group revenue = 6.47 million. This means that the poker division will lose ~24% of its revenues.

But Cryp has had growth in 2006 too.

Fist half numbers:

Casino $32.9 million
Poker $18.9 million

Total $57.3 million

If we say that Betfair poker player growth was in line with the total Crypto poker growth, then we can still claim that the revenues from Betfair is between 5 and 10% of Crypto total revenues (middle point 7.5%).

7.5% of 57.3 million is 4.3 million, which is 22.7% of the poker revenues in Cryptologic.

If we use 5% as is the low end of guidance from Betfair effect on revenues, the numbers will be smaller, while the 10% high guidence the effect will be over 30%.

PS. All numbers are without the American effect, which come on top of the Betfair exit.

Conclusion: Crypto will take a huge hit after the Betfair exit, with over 20% less players."

Since then, Crypto has announced that Betsafe is going from Tain to Crypto, but I dont think Betsafe have a large number of players.

Looking at the numbers today it looks like crypto is down ~15%. However judging by comments on betfairs forums users are not happy in general and are switching to Willy Hill skin. A lot on SNG players are complaining that the new structure takes to long to complete a 9 man SNG. (~ 90 mins). So the impact may not be as big for SNG Players like myself.
