Re: Raising then folding AJ pre-flop - pathetic or heroic?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Just out of curiosity, how much of an equity boost do you think suitedness gives AJ? [/ QUOTE ] Exactly 6%. That can be pretty huge if it bumps it from say, 30 to 36% in a 3 way, capped pot. Haven't read all the reply's, but it seems that while folding AJo here was correct, folding AJs might not. But I don't know, I'll have to look at all these Poker Stove results. My first intuition is to call if suited, fold if not. The reason is that if you hit a nut flush, you are bound to get tons of action, so great implied odds. AJo does not have that extra benefit. [/ QUOTE ] The suitedness factor is lessened because you only have 2 opponents. Your implied odds really aren't as good as you think. Especially when you're putting in 4 bets preflop. b |

Exactly 6%. [/ QUOTE ] [nit]How 'bout 4%, since with AJo you'll make a flush 2% of the time by the river?[/nit] Regardless, this is not enough of a difference that AJs and AJo are polar opposites on the call-or-fold continuum. That was my only point. |

[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Standard... Although it looks bad if you do it live. You need a line if you do it live like. "You got me guys" or "Man... That was my fun raise" JT JT [/ QUOTE ] ? I've never had a problem doing this live. There's only 2 hands this really happens with and the odds of the situation coming up twice in a night, much less a month or 2, is pretty rare. b [/ QUOTE ] Meh, more than 2 don't you think? AJo, KQo, ATo? For me, KJo too.... [/ QUOTE ] True. But mainly 2 because it will happen more-so when you do it in EP since there are that many more players yet to act behind you. I don't open with ATo or KJo in EP. b |

BTW, I also fold AJs and sometimes AQo in this spot.

Re: Raising then folding AJ pre-flop - pathetic or heroic?
This is the hottest topic for a while! So far the thread has got 49 replies (this is the 50th), and last time a discussion got this many replies was over a week ago, a thread that ended 15th of August.
And at the same time it's the most pointless thread ever I believe. Not even the addition of the "what-if-my-hand-was-suited" argument made it interesting. Both AJ and AJs are easy folds in this situation for obvious reasons, and I can simply not understand how on Earth there can be 50 replies in this thread. It will be one of the mysteries for future archeologists to solve. |

[/ QUOTE ] People like to respond to the easy questions and feel smart about it afterwards. Post a remotely interesting hand, watch the thread get replies from 2-3 people who dodge the difficult portions of the hand, and then watch the thread die quickly while everyone moves on to the next "AA and I get raised on a paired board" thread w/ 15 replies. |
