Nice post and very good points.

One thing I'll point out is that we shouldn't let ourselves over-think situations. Sometimes we can talk ourselves in to a bad call because we see more and more "possibilities."
Other times we talk ourselves in to folding because we're seeing monsters under the bed or we auger in to 4th & 5th level thinking where it isn't warranted.

So yes, we should take a moment to think about the big decisions. But don't overthink them.

That's a fair criticism, but as a general rule, when very big decisions are happening the mistake a typical online NL player makes is not to think too much, but to think too little. Remember: before you get to "too much" you have to go through "just enough." Given that "just enough time" to think about a major decision for your entire stack is usually going to be at least 30 seconds, and given that most poker sites don't give you more than that amount of time to think, more thinking is usually going to be better.

But don't time out.

Totally agree. uNLers and SSNLers, newbies and vets alike are all guilty of pulling the trigger for all the marbles based on a knee-jerk reaction too much. Now that I think of it, it's probably one of my big leaks.

I don't think people appreciate how much the speed of the game affects the quality of play. I always thought this was one of the reasons Party was fishier than other sites.

It's one thing to be a fish, but it's a whole 'nother ballgame to be a fish running out of time with a beeper going off in your ear.
