Default Going to Meskwaki in Iowa - Looking For Comments

My wife and I are spending a weekend to Meskwaki, near Tama, IA, in March. Has anyone been there lately? Any comments on the poker room? I typically play $3/6 - $6/12 LHE and haven't played NL other than tournaments (I live in MN).

Any insight would be appreciated (#tables, limits, action, pluses, minuses, etc).

I spent a good couple years of college playing there a lot, i still have friends in the area, I have been told they have been spreading 2-4 to 4-8 limit holdem, 4-8 limit HOE, more rare 3-6 Omaha H/L, 1-2 NL HE, and 1-2 PL HO game

So to your question:
What days of the week will you be there?
You will find 2-4 and 3-6 limit games, 4-8 will be more of a peak time thing
1-2 NL HE will be running all the time and pretty weak like normal NL HE games
Depending on day/time, I would say 2-6 tables will be running

I was told the remodel of this room just completed so it is a brand new room, I havent seen it yet

I believe they still have weekly tournaments on Wednesday and Thursday nights at 7pm, normally pretty weak competition, all NLHE

Prairie Meadows in Des Moines is also a very nice room and will have more games running but 3-6 limit HE will be the only limit game, rarely a 4-8 will go

Riverside Casino just opened up south of Iowa City and is pretty decent but same 3-6 games

Anyone in iowa wanting to play bigger than 3-6 is pretty much forced over to 1-2 NL HE (some 2-5 NL HE) and 1-2 and bigger PL HO/HOE games, the PL games being gradually more rare and need to call around to find out what is going on

The remodel was just completed in late January. I've been there twice since then, both on Sundays. I've found nothing but one 3-6 game going both days, with about an hour of wait to get in the TAG-infested game.

I'll probably get out there next Saturday barring anything popping up. Perhaps another [censored] blizzard?

I've never heard of Tama as an end destination. Man, you need to get out more. Maybe you're spending some time in the Amana's too. That's the only thing that makes sense.
I haven't been there since the remodel but I swore I'd never go back. Last time I was there it was full of farmer's who were afraid to part with their seed money.
Take the time to drive over to Prairie Meadows.
But...... if you're going to be in the area over a weekend, stop at Rube's Steakhouse in Monteur Ia. Ribeyes the size of a small roast. Unbelievably good.

Thanks for the heads up...unfortunately the lack of an attached hotel sank my hopes of going to Prairie Meadows and the last time I drove the extra distance to Council Bluffs it was so busy that I didn't play a hand (5-6 hour wait) so Tama is it. I'm hoping that someone has been there on a weekend since the remodel and has some good news!

Default no beer?

Is the poker room still dry?

I haven't been there for for 7 years, so the games have probably changed substantially, but how about the no booze policy?

thanks

Still no alcohol, althugh the tribal council is fighting over whether or not they should start selling booze.

Is it mostly Hold Em now?

When I played there years ago the main games were Omaha/8 and 2/10 stud/8.

It is mostly hold'em now - even as of 2 years ago - but they still have some omaha 8 but nothing near what it was 4-5 years ago where it was mostly o8, stud, and stud8

Just like any other poker room they moved towards the small limit and nl hold'em gmaes
