Frank has become the poster boy for NY Poker legalization & regulation. Who would have guessed.

Prop bet on when poker is legalized/regulated in NY? I just don't believe this guy's death, sad and unnecessary as it is, will have a a positive effect at all on "NY poker." If anything, it will make the police/legislators more active in busting games/operators.

On a different note...With all of the donkeys that played at this establishment and the others in this fine city, how come I rarely come across a 2per at the tables? Secrecy huh?

Not to hijack thread, but city and outer boros/metro area are entirely different when it comes to 2p2. It is likely that many 2p2 young people are in NYC clubs. They may or may not make it obvious. As far as alternate locales in other boros, you would be hard pressed to find 2p2'ers anywhere, simply not that kind of atmosphere.

As far as the commentary about "poker clubs being unsafe" please be aware of the posts that indicate what should be obvious - NO venue is safe. Not casinos, not rec hall or charity tournaments, not even necessarily home games. This is not to mention the fact that any business is open to this type of activity as long as there are sleazy people willing to partake in it. This in actuality really isn't a "poker" problem, other than the fact that clubs tend to have more cash on hand then your average business.

This is a pretty silly comment. Are you more likely to be shot in a robbery at a casino or a private, illegal club?

You tell me. It's been noted above that this is the first fatal shooting at an NY poker club of this kind that we know of. Also, your kindergarten cherry pick cut and paste job actually makes zero sense. I stated that no venue was safe, I didn't indicate a mathematic breakdown of what places I considered the safest versus those where you were at all LIKELY to get robbed.

I used to be a partner in a nightclub in NYC with a fully legal cabaret license, and I was also the GM of another club. I saw more guns, robberies, shakedowns, shootings and criminal behavior in that industry than I will ever see in my lifetime in NYC private poker clubs. Lets keep this in all perspective, cash businesses are always targets.

We would all like more legalized poker I think. But the more likely result of incidents like this is an increased crack down on clubs.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, I agree. Too many people see incidents like this and think "this is why poker needs to stay illegal" instead of realizing that if poker were legal events like this would be much rarer.

[/ QUOTE ]

Saying "make underground cardrooms legal" is a bad argument to make to the teeming masses that know that there is legal live poker in just about every casino in AC. It's a non-starter, even more so in the aftermath of this event.

Bret - Frank has become the poster boy for pro and anti poker efforts equally.

Everyone else - the news media is watching this thread, I have already been interviewed once today with another one scheduled for this evening, I'll provide links when available.
