Welcome to the forum.

Learn how to play one version of poker first.
(There are different versions, all called 'poker'.)

You need to decide if you're playing Limit or No Limit, and once you've answered that question, are you playing Full Ring or 6 Max?

Then spend time in the appropriate forum on this site.

You might also find it useful to read a book or two. (See the Books and Publications forum for recommended titles.)

Play at the lowest level and work your way up.

Realise that poker is a long term game, not a get-rich-quick scheme.

It's also a lot of fun provided you're playing with money you can afford to lose.

Good Luck.

Don't play for real money (unless you can afford to lose it) until you are a winner at the play money games. If you're going to play sit-n-go tournaments on PokerStars, then work your way up to the highest play money level (which I believe is $50,000 play money per sit-n-go to enter).

If you can't beat the play money games at the highest levels, you're going to get killed when you're using real money.

Deposit more than you can afford into an account at an online poker site, and play the biggest game you can find. Use all of the money you deposited to buy in. Good bankroll management requires that you put your entire bankroll into play. It is the only way my son.

if we knew that I wouldn't be able to type with all the WSOP bracelets on my arm!

i don't know if you're limit or no-limit, but if limit then start in the micro's and - i really can't recommend this enough - a) read. re-read, then read again Small Stakes Hold'em by Ed Miller.
b) contribute to hand reviews more than you post you own hands for review
c) In the micro limits we have 'Session Reviews'. Sign up for these and see your game improve.

alternatively, take your salary to no-limit, play without thinking or planning, and spunk it all away in 30 minutes.

welcome to 2+2

I would reccommend microstakes rather than play money (1c/2c).
