When it comes time to cash out your chips and the cage is counting out all your hundo bills, if you're not the type of person that wants to be carrying around large amounts of cash, what's the best thing to do?

can the cage write you traveller's checks, or can you get a box or something? also, can the cage cash your traveller's checks for you if that's all you have so you can start playing?

going to vegas in a week, and don't want to be carrying 1/2 my roll around in my pocket.

I won 10K playing black jack at the Mirage back in 2000 and I asked for 5K in bills and 5k in a bank check. They had no problem with that. This was 7 years ago so maybe things have changed.

Most places should write you a check if it's a reasonable amount. I actually converted about 2K cash into a check at Turning Stone once, although the cage boss gave an earful to the cashier for doing it (money laundering ftw). The boss told me to bring chips next time that could be vouched for instead of trying to convert cash into a check.

Boxes are very convenient - I had one last summer and I will get one when I'm back this summer. At the V, it was a $100 deposit that I got back when I closed the box and it took maybe 10 minutes to get it started; they photocopied my ID and I had to fill out a form. I imagine that's pretty standard. Definitely get a box if you're moving to Vegas for the summer/permanently, but don't bother if you're just going for a vacation.

Also remember that most people are walking around with lots of cash in Vegas, so you should feel comfortable doing the same.

thx for the feedback. i'm staying there for 4 nights, and i wouldn't be worried about carrying large amounts of cash on me if i was staying on the strip, but i'm not, i'm staying about 3 miles away (not realizing how far it was away from the strip when i booked it).

i'll just opt for the check option and get a $ belt.
