making money at 1/2 and 2/4
i've been playing 1/2 and 2/4 limit 6 max for a few months now and cant seem to make decent profits out of it. it always seems that i break even or slightly down and its bonuses and rakeback that have to pull me out the sh*t. the point i'm trying to clarify is at these limits is the rake just too high in comparison to the possible return to make profit from actual game play. it might just be that i'm not winning much but i'm sure if i had PT i'd be positive for BB/100.
any info appreciated. |

Re: making money at 1/2 and 2/4
Youc ertainly can make money at these limits.
Even I'm making money and I know i have lots of leaks. It also depends against whom and where you play. If you play at Party wehr the rake is about 10$/100 and there aren't any donators at the table it's obviously harder than at pokerrooms with half the rake and at fishy tables. FWIW, bonuses are rakeback so winning through bonuses is fine as you would beat the game if the rake was lower. Cliffnotes: If you search for the uberfish you can crush these limits |

Re: making money at 1/2 and 2/4
I'm experiencing exactly the same thing, I'm just about breakeven before bonuses. I've been at 1/2 6-max for more than a year now and I still can't say that I'm a winning player. I totally agree with anyone who claim that the players ar terrible. Question is if I'm doing something fundamentaly wrong (all stats indicate I'm o track, except too weak defense from the SB), or if the rake is so high that a decent ABC player (that's me) can't make a profit. I'm not sure of the numbers as I'm not on my PT PC but I think my 22/15/2 style is abot 2,5BB/100 in rake on Stars.

Re: making money at 1/2 and 2/4
I recently (February) left full ring 2/4.
Since then I have 4.25 BB/100 at 1/2 over 37K hands. At 2/4 it was 1.3 (about 11K hands) before yesterdays good run. And I always play with a "good" bonus, so the hands are from most of the networks (Cryptologic, Stars, Party, Paradise, Prima and Ongame). They are beatable, at least if you table select to some degree when there are enough tables to do that. As a side note I can say that Paradise has the worst players by far. Sadly, there's almost no action at 2/4+. |

Re: making money at 1/2 and 2/4
I'm back playing 2/4 this month I used to be a winning 10/20 player mostly. I've logged 12k hands at a good winrate which is not too important but the Average Seen Flop for these games is still about 45 and that means they are extremely beatable.

Re: making money at 1/2 and 2/4
I'm breakeven at my first 50k hands of 6max, mostly 1/2 (and only started with poker in december so not that much full ring experience, none in other games). So with more study&experience they certainly should be beatable. With bonuses and rakeback you make a nice amount even as a breakeven player.
I'm seriously considering switching to NL though. :P @ gehrig what do you consider a very high winrate? |

Re: making money at 1/2 and 2/4
Every site is beatable at all levels.
Excellent players easily beats tough bonus sites for 2BB/100 and good players do at least 1BB/100 at 1/2 to 5/10. On the fishier sites winrates of 3.5 BB/100 for an excellent player and 2.5 BB/100 for a good player is sustainable at 1/2 and 5/10. On the sites I have played I have not noticed any difference in playing skills between 1/2 and 3/6 so it is a little bit harder to achieve the same winrate at 1/2 compared to 3/6 but the difference is quite small. Unless you´re an exceptionally bad table/seat selector there are most certainly room for you to improve your play and if you do you will be at least a 1BB/100 winner at 2/4. And remember that you´re already better than the majority of players since you´re breaking even. |
