Not necessary at all. It can certainly help you learn basic poker concepts that apply to both games, but it's not a pre-req for no limit play.

Agreed, it's not necessary. I think it's nice to round off your skills by taking different games a try, but you certainly don't have to play LHE to be good at NLHE.

It's worth mentioning that until the recent poker explosion, LHE was spread as a ring game much more often than NLHE, so it kind of goes without saying that anyone playing back then would mostly be playing LHE.

I've never played LHE and do quite well at NL.

I do however suggest spending some time learning the other forms of poker - each game emphasizes different skills slightly, and learning them all (or even just one other) will make you a better overall poker player.

If you need to practice folding play PLO.

I never played limit when I first started, I thought it was boring and never played it, lately I've been playing it alot though and like it now that I'm starting to understand how it's played better. Definatly not a prereq but it's a great game to learn and there is alot of money to be had playing it.

As far as the rules go, yes but the table dynamic is very different. Since the odds are almost always there you can play drawing hands somewhat wider in limit as you always have the odds to call a decent draw. Upside is you lose less when you do not hit your hand and you know the max bet you can face, downside is your big hands can only make so much.

I never played limit but have started to play a little to mix things up. I think a looser player will do well at limit while he could be a loser at NL, on yhe flip side a winner at NL who plays tight could be a loser at limit using the same strategy.

Rules are same but the approach is different imo.

I never played limit and had no big problems going straight to NLHE. I do think playing limit first would help you learn how pot odds and implied odds work faster than in NLHE though.

And Lucky, can you explain why PLO is good folding practice?
