Age: 25

Occupation: I just got a part time job working in the sports department at a newspaper. I enjoy it so far. I used to be a teacher but I ended up in a bad experience at a charter school which sort of turned me against teaching for the time being.

Poker: I used to kill the 1-2 NL games on Party Poker. Common story I'm sure. Since January, I have been trying to make a run on Full Tilt with very little success. The players are definitely better and I'm obviously not as good as I thought I was. Mostly .25-.50 NL right now.

Family: I'm pretty much broke, so I'm back at home with my mom, step-dad, and two younger brothers. I hope this is very temporary because I highly value my independence.

Girls: Still not over my ex-girlfriend. I have been better about being outgoing around new girls and socializing with more of them. FWIW, different topic, I could use advice on getting over an ex that you really care about.

Happy: I feel better about myself now that I'm employed. I'm still nowhere near happy though. Earlier this year I was happy because I had enough money not to worry about it and I was just doing whatever I wanted. I would go to a casino a few times a week and also played in some WSOP circuits. Now I'm broke, many of my friends have moved away, and I live with my parents. Not cool.

I'd rate my happiness right now at around a 3/10, mostly because of the stress from trying to decide on a new career. That, and my car was just totaled, so I have that to deal with as well.

cool thread

age: 23
occupation: man i would say poker player, but really i just wanted to take time off from school to travel, and luckily im good enough at poker to support that (read: luckboxed a sunday million). i WILL go back to school, whether it be back to law school or to grad school, im not one of those guys that "withdraws" but doesnt go back. at least i dont think so.

status: single... had a gf for a very long time (ages 15-21), but we broke up, and ive been enjoying being single for the most part (although because so much of my "developmental stages" were spent in a relationship, i do get lonely sometimes).

happiness: high. although i do beat myself up a lot about not being "good enough," in whatever way (for instance i never applied myself in school as much as i should have, and even now, while i'm traveling around the world, i feel like i should spent more time doing stuff and less time killing time, but i'm a pretty poor self-starter), my life is great, i smile a lot, and i think i'm an incredibly lucky guy and i like my life. although i am a bit self destructive at times, i spend above my means because i always just assume like, i can always make more money right, and i'm only young once. but my accountant doesn't think much of this attitude.

Age: 24

Occupation: freelance audio engineer/music producer. i work with some of the best musicians in the NYC indie scene and have asssisted on a few projects for major artists. income is decent....should see $60k-ish in 2007. but *massive* growth potential if i play my cards right and luck goes my way. i also generally love what i'm doing.

Family: none. im single.

"Would you say you're happy with where you are?"

emphatically yes. the good things in my life far outweigh the bad. i work on some ridiculously good music and have a great time most of the time. would love to meet a girl who's relationship material but not really willing to settle for less than what i want in that regard.

Age: 25

Occupation: I guess poker...I mean thats how I get by and support the family these days, but saying i'm a poker professional when i'm playing 100nl sounds retarded. I hope to become a student in the near future and get some direction in my life.

Family: Wife and kid, my parents and sisters are on a different continent which sucks as I can only visit them like once a year if i'm lucky and i'm really close to my family as well.

Happy: Aside from my family being thousands of miles away and seeing no immediate future for myself i'm really happy. I'm married to my soulmate and its always comforting to know that no matter how bad things get she'll always be there and things will be ok. Obv things could be better like a cool job or more money but those things are just added bonuses if i'm already happy with my life.

Interesting thread

Very happy w/ my life right now. I'm doing well financially now. I'm going to buy a new car on Sunday. We just finished renovations about a month ago on our condo and will be selling it when we can get a good price and hopefully buying a home (or townhouse) so life is pretty sweet at the moment. Which is why I havent been on for so long. I miss you guys!

Tenn,

Congrats. It sounds like you're in a very similar spot to me right now (just got engaged, closing our townhouse on Wednesday). Glad to hear how awesome you're doing.

I can hear all the hearts in OOT breaking right now knowing that Tenn is truly off the market!

It's very hard to get used to having drastically less free and flexibility in your life.

[/ QUOTE ]

wow, my experience was the exact opposite. in college I was always working and had a bunch of stuff to do, and never felt like I had any time. when I started working full time, having no constant obligations (outside normal work hours) felt great.

[/ QUOTE ]

i agree with this quote completely.

-Trader...just graduated from Michigan last spring. The job is really cool; I basically just come in and play a game all day. Sometimes it's kinda stressful, but whatever--i'd rather be stressed than bored.

GF of 2 years er so. Pretty solid relationship although sometimes I meet other girls who I'd like to get to know.

Pretty happy with everything...Chicago is an amazing city. The only negative feeling in my weekly life results from deciding if I want to be in a relationship or go meet random girls. It's really an impossible decision for me--so many positives and negatives.

Poker really changed my life a lot--it really taught me to believe in myself /end Disney line. (I used to play up to 5/10NL HU).
