Default [16s] heads up question

How bad is racing when effective stacks are 5k or more or at 200/400? I keep losing these A-x vs K-Q, Q-J, etc type races and its really pissing me off. Here's a situation heads up against a typical $16 30/10 donk. It was the first hand, does anybody play it different?:

PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em Tourney, Big Blind is t400 (2 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: 2+2 Forums)

Hero (t8260)
Button (t5240)

Preflop: Hero is BB with 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img].
Button calls t200, Hero raises to t8235, Button calls t4815 (All-In).

Why can't you just raise it and outplay him after the flop? And if you get outflopped, you can still save a lot of chips and stay ahead or closely behind..

Standard raising and bet folding is awful here. This is fine. Most idiots at the $16s aren't limping tricky...it's Q10 type hands that they will then stack off with...get it in ahead IMO.

edit to say that checking and seeing a flop is fine for deception...but if you're looking to raise I think it has to be AI.

How can you go AI preflop with a 8000+ stack and 200-400 blinds? Come on, this is poker, not lotto. You're supposed to be able to play hands also post-flop.
And still, raising 1000-1200ish would have him fold if he has total junk, and call with something you can make him fold with a continuation bet after the flop most of the times.
He isn't in chip-trouble at the moment, blinds aren't too high....If he calls, you're most of the times a dog or a slight favorite....You have the chip lead, you don't want to be in this situation..

yeah just make it 1k, it'll do the same thing. when it gets to 3/600, however, you're just gonna push instead of raise.

OK so you make it 1k and villain calls.

Flop comes Q73 rainbow. Pot is 4050(think antes are 25) and villain has 4215 left.

What is your line? I just think you put yourself in a horrible spot standard raising here. Even worse if you make it 1200.

how is pot 4050? 1k+1k+50= t2050. in which case we can make a t1200 cbet and fold to a crai and still be ok in chips... and if you do this with every hand the strength of your hand becomes hidden so eventually you're getting paid off with your good hands and losing the min with your bad ones.

Jesus nice math me...hold on lemme fix this.

OK so pot is t2050 and villain has t4215.

We bet 1200 and he shoves and we fold. Villain now has 7465 to our 6035...we have given up our CL and while we still have a playable stack we can't put on as much pressure on him IMO. Blinds are going up *soon* and I'm looking to have the advantage as the blinds go up.
