200 NL, trips against passive player, any value in river raise?
This is a FR table, just broken down to 3-handed.
Villain is 30/5 and horribly passive (AF under 1). Poker Stars - No Limit Hold'em Cash Game - $1/$2 Blinds - 3 Players - (LegoPoker Hand History Converter) SB: $108.40 BB: $206.80 Hero (BTN): $401.35 Preflop: Hero is dealt 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 Players) Hero raises to $8.00, SB folds, BB calls $6.00 Flop: ($17) 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 Players) BB checks, Hero bets $13.00, BB calls $13.00 Turn: ($43) 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (2 Players) BB checks, Hero bets $32.00, BB calls $32.00 River: ($107) Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 Players) BB bets $36.00, Hero? Call or raise? Villain still has $118 left after his river lead, but can he really pay me off with worse than trips here? |

When these guys start betting the river, the alarm bell starts ringing. He may show up with KK but I would just call.

Re: 200 NL, trips against passive player, any value in river raise?
Given how passive he was I don't like the bet on the river at all.
I just call, I think a raise at this point only gets action from the str8 or trips or some other horror, obv you are likely to get the worst of it if he has the other 9. If I was going to raise, it would only be to 72 as a betfold. If he has an overpair it would be tough for him to lay that down having made the river bet. But really, an overpair here? Not likely. |

Re: 200 NL, trips against passive player, any value in river raise?
Tough spot, I think calling here is the best move simply because villain is super passive.
Would you consider him betting with a straight here when the board is paired? Passive player with TdJd would probably play the hand this way. AdQd /KdQd is out of question although he could be betting a blocker here to get info if his top pair on the river is good against your possible TT/JJ. 9x is probably out of question too but if he has it you're probably beat in that case too. I don't know. Sucks to be you at this spot but I wouldn't raise it. Just call and get valuable information for the future. |

wtf, shove. [/ QUOTE ] If villain is really that passive, what worse hand will he bet here and pay off if hero shoves? KK, AdQd, 96? I don't think so. He wont fold any better hand here and probably wont call any worse hand. |

that villian is passve does not say very much if you play a very agressive game even passive players make a move once and a while.
But in this case i would just call lots of hands that beat you here. |

He wont fold any better hand here and probably wont call any worse hand. [/ QUOTE ] This has to be the most overused logic on this forum. PEOPLE MAKE DUMB CALLS ALL THE TIME. Just because a good player wouldn't call a bet/raise with a hand that is clearly beat doesn't mean some donkey isn't going to make that same call. |
