Default Some Banks Already Making a Move?

Long time listener, first time caller, love your show, blah blah....

For the first time in two years of on-line poker, I was unable to use my debit card to fund a site (Full-Tilt). Is it possible that some banks are already moving to block payments? Seems pretty quick.

Is it coincidence or have others experienced this already?

BTW, I used an eCheck on Full Tilt instead of the debit card, and it was extremely quick and easy.

Well the echeck was still from your bank wasn't it? There's your answer. Nothing is going to happen until the feds draft the regulations.

This is old stuff. Your bank just took a while to get there.

Really. So I assume you and others have not been able to use debit cards for some time? (My credit cards were cut off long ago, but not my debit) Admittedly, I bank with a rather small bank chain. The timing is just...interesting.

I never tried to use a debit card. I assumed it wouldn't work.

I tried my debit card a while back (before the legislation was passed) on FTP and I was declined as well. I'm pretty sure you haven't been able to use a credit card to fund a poker site for quite some time now.

The rules on credit cards are determined by the big credit card companies (visa,mc,discover, amex, etc) - they all banned internet gambling transfers a while back.

The rules on debit cards are determined by your bank, and this is a totally case-by-case basis. Many larger banks have banned these transfers long ago like the credit card companies, whereas many smaller banks haven't bothered until they get a complaint. That or they think most of their customers are capable of being responsible (impossible! lol).

My debit cards are all through larger banks and have never worked since I've been playing online.

This certainly makes sense. The bank chain I do business with is a small SE Iowa chain. In all likelihood, there were relatively few of us transacting with online gaming.

The interesting timing of the change makes me think someone in their boardroom finally said, "Gosh darn, maybe we should look into that there online gaming stuff..."
