It just increases the EV/SN/month but there is no way to use a tournament / cash structure to increase the EV unless the structure makes some SNs lose EV.

[/ QUOTE ]

I don't think anyone is arguing EV can be concocted for the whole SuperNova field out of thin air by changing the structure of the program. Basically, I don't care HOW Stars does it, I'd like to continue to get ~$3,000 in EV. Whether this is accomplished by increasing the total budget and giving cash or tournament tickets or leaving the freerolls in place is immaterial to me.

[/ QUOTE ]

That would require increasing the budget by $4.5M/year. It is not going to happen.

Why Henry are so consistently certain that the budget is fixed? I don't get that.

[/ QUOTE ]

Probably because Stars' current pitch is $70/mo in bonus$.

Here's an idea to throw around:

What if, instead of the freerolls, Stars had a VIP player point leaderboard that awarded a tournament package to the WSOP Main Event or the PCA to the top 200 point totals?

Obviously this would have to exclude Elites. (They get enough anyways)

I think a VIPP LEADERBOARD would create a lot of excitement and competition.

That misses the whole point though. As some get money, again, while the majority miss out.

Think of it as an election, the goal is to positively affect the largest amount of people, not just a few.

Off topic: Does Stars have any plans to ever add a sportsbook?

[/ QUOTE ]

This would force them to leave the US market, I believe. The only poker sites that are accessible from the US are ones without attached sportsbooks. You can thank UIGEA for that situation.

[/ QUOTE ]

I did not know that. Sucks. If they had a sportsbook and offered any VPPs I'd make SNE by Feb.

[/ QUOTE ]

Henry - You didn't know that because it isn't accurate in the least.
WSEX and Bodog are two examples of poker/sportsbooks right off the top of my head.
I think that Cake/Sportsbook is another one but I don't know much about them.

There are also several other sportsbooks without poker that continue to accept U.S. customers just fine...although similar to poker, some of the sportsbooks pulled-out shortly after the UIGEA because they were a bit paranoid or were just respectful of the U.S. govt's wishes or whatever.

Yes, having a sportsbook probably makes you 'more evil' in the eyes of the U.S. govt and that would be a significant deterrent to Stars ever starting one.
But obviously there are poker/sportsbook operations who continue to operate in the U.S. and there doesn't appear to be too much the U.S. is able to do about it.
It is definitely incorrect to say that "if Stars opens a sportsbook then they will be completely unable to accept U.S. customers."

Or.... maybe it would require something like the Status Quo? (i.e., budgeting about the same $ amount per SuperNova as they did in 2007, while continuing the EXACT SAME SuperNova freeroll structure).

(BTW, congrats on your new job as head of the Stars Marketing Dept- I'm assuming you hold the position since you speak so definitively on what is or is not going to happen next year )

That makes absolutely no sense. Every SN did not get $3000EV in 2007.

While it won't effect my play (I'm just waiting for Jan 2nd) I will nevertheless be disappointed in Stars if they keep the freerolls. Not because the loss of EV bothers me but simply because the arguments for keeping the freerolls presented are awful (despite good ones existing).

I must concede in the face of such a flawless argument when so clearly presented with such unassailable logic. You have a way of winning the hearts and minds of all men on the internets, sir.

Well lets be honest. The only argument presented so far is that Stars should keep the Freerolls despite the ~70% of SNs not wanting them and despite the massive inequality of the current distribution only because it is better for you personally. That is a pretty bad argument.

Clearly, you want a fair and equitable solution, simply because you're fair-minded and just, only wanting us all to be treated equally, with no self-interest whatsoever and no thoughts whatsoever about what is best for you. Meanwhile I and the other 400-600 SuperNovas who would be disappointed in seeing their EV drop from $3,000 in 2007 below $1,000 are clearly illogical and selfish beyond saving.

How about we just agree to disagree, and stop going back and forth, okay? This horse is pretty well beat to a pulp. I for one am done trying to consider and be respectful of your opinion while trying to get you to recognize mine might be valid as well.

If you have a compulsion to get the last word in, feel free to indulge.
