How about all the plastic products you use? You are driving the demand for that pollution, should I be able to stop you from using plastic? Should I be able to stop you from consuming anything if I can show how all your consupmtion harms the environment in some way? In the case of the polluted lake, laws were most likely violated and violaters should have been punished. The system isn't perfect. The governmental body with juristiction over that lake let you down.

You must realize by now that our conception of "rights" is vastly different, so proceeding down that alley will be unlikely to prove fruitful.

The people who polluted the lake did not have a fiduciary responsibility to maintain the lake. It is the responsibility of the governmnet you entrust to see that laws are enforced and rights are protected.
