whether these allegations come to be truth or not, i think you can see why on-line poker will not be legalized in the usa, anytime soon.

it's interesting how everyone was berating the usa for making on-line poker illegal based upon it being classified as a game of chance, when the real concern is that on-line poker does not have the security in place to prevent cheating.

i will not be surprised if more euro countries start to ban on-line poker for security reasons. the on-line sites have very well demonstrated that they are more interested in raking in the rake today, rather than spending capital to provide the adequate security measures needed in today and tomorrow's on-line world.

I don't see how pokerstars can determine if two different people were sitting at home playing on 1 computer.

[/ QUOTE ]

Unless i missed something in the thread, it appears that 5 people were sat in one persons home playing the same tourney.

There is like 1.4 million dollars and Pokerstars' reputation on the line here - they will investigate further im sure.

[/ QUOTE ]

do you (or anyone else) really not see a problem with the system as a whole if:

-stars had nothing in place to stop this when registrations were taken
-stars willingly accepted the rake money from this and other similar situations
-stars is now only spurred in to action to investigate the first place player despite the massive amount of information they have on the other 2997 'players' in the event?

(fwiw i think the most appropriate response is probably to just let it go and not investigate)

[/ QUOTE ]

No, the most appropriate response is to start with the winner, then move on to everyone who cashed, then move to everyone who entered.

Yes, there SHOULD be a system in place to stop it before it happened, but this doesnt mean you shouldnt act on something after it has happened.

By your logic the police shouldnt investigate crimes because the crimes have already happened.

Why couldnt he just get his sister to call them and be like yeah i was playing blah blah blah.

I dont see how they can prove it wasnt actually his sister?

[/ QUOTE ]

This is much like the Exclusive/El Capitano incident, except there is one account with zero history of play.
I would think an investigation on when the account was made and how funded reveals much more than we can know at this point.

If one can simply make multiple accounts and play them by having said person at their house at the time the genie is way the hell out of the bottle on this.

[/ QUOTE ]

what was this? those two nicknames are used by two different and very wellknown young players.

Surely you see how Stars taking action now is taking action against cheats.

In fact they locked loads of accounts about a month back because of account sharing in cash games and tourneys.

What you dont realise is that legislating the sites is the best way to secure them - look at the US, now you have a bunch of people still playing on these sites but your country has no influence whatsoever over them.

These sites, certainly Stars anyway, are doing what they can in a difficult situation. Are there problems in online poker, of course. But the same can be said of any industry/business/government anywhere in the world.

The fact is i gladly accept the risks associated with online poker because the positives massively outweigh any problems.

The future is NOT banning online gaming, its a country as forward thinking as mine (the UK) setting up a government body and licensing system to regulate these sites in the same way as the Financial Services Authority regulates banks.

I believe that the naive olympics are being held later this year, have you been selected for your national team?

BUUUUUUUUUURRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!

Also, i glanced at the monstrous thread in MTTC while the tourney was going on, and a lot of people suspected TheVoid was JJProdigy. Was that some huge inside joke or was there some early evidence that made people suspicious?
