Default new to playing online

I am new to this site and to online playing. I have been playing $1/2 NL at a few casinos as well as local card rooms. I would like to start plaing NL on line and am looking for advice. Which site would be recommended? What limits? How to set up account? Rake back advice? Any info and advice would be appreciated. I appreciate any informed advice. Thanks in advance.

For sites there are Fulltilt, Pokerstars, UB etc Most people prefer stars and fulltilt. As for limits that is up to you and your bankroll, but I would think you should start small and work your way up. There is a rakeback forum here also.

Dear god be sure to get rakeback if the site that you sign up for allows it. See aforementioned rakeback forum for details.

In case no one has told you the bad news, players at $1/2 online, especially if you play at sites that accept Americans, will be much much tougher than at a casino. Others may chime in, but I think a $1/2 at a casino is about a .10/.25 online as far as skill level equivalent goes.

Go to a rakeback site and sign up through their links. If you are going to be a regular player make sure you use their rakeback codes and not “free books” offer or other offers they may have. I use raketherake and find them very good but there are many others if you google.

Try to find a site that has bonus offers and use those as well.

PokerStars (no rakeback but they have their own reward system) and Full Tilt are the largest and have most traffic but the rakeback sites will list a whole bunch of other sites. You will be limited if you are from USA.

I use Neteller to deposit without problems but if you are from USA this is not an option. You can ask here for options but I would suggest direct emails to any site you decide to play.

Bankroll management is very important and there are some good threads here if you search.

If I think of anything else I will post.

Good luck

Thsnk you all for the advice. I did not know what to expect. I have posted on other non-poker sites looking for info and very often just get non informative and sarcastic replies.
I am from the USA and would appreciate info on how and where to deposit bankroll. I really do appreciate the help. I live in a very rural area and the local guys I play with are gamblers more than players and I do not feel I can learn haw to play the game this way. I have read several books and at times feel they ma have made me play too tight and predictable.
Thanks again for the help.

i understand your feeling, you might feel something like this : *i can't play ABC poker all the time, they will notice, read me too easily. I won't get paid with my big hands and will get bluffed out of pots too often*

truth is, you are wrong. especially at 1/2 and lower online.
with proper balancing, ABC poker is the way to go.

here's the bad news now. playing good ABC poker still takes some time to learn and master.

you will also have to adjust at playing online compared to what you are used live. the game pace is quite faster, no physical tells to rely on, plenty of bad players that will suck out on you many times in a row, etc.

my point is : its quite easy to go nuts online when you are not used to it. getting bad beated 5 times in a row in 15 minutes is not something pleasant when it happens for the first time (the 84th time still doesn't feel better). it's quite easy to tilt, jump in bigger games in a matter of seconds and put your roll on jeopardy...

my advice. give it a shot with a limited bankroll (200-500$, whatever) play lower than you are used to for a couple hours to get the feel of it, reevaluate, and go on.

.fs.

Being tight is a good start. Read the forums, get rakeback, and play lower stakes online than you think necessary. You may be surprised at the type of "ABC poker" that is being played. I know friends who think ABC poker means seeing flops with any suited cards and going from there.
